One problem that never seems to leave us, especially if you’re living in a major city – is the lack of space! If you’re an independent millennial who recently moved out of their family home and into their own, then a major issue that you may be dealing with almost every day…is space constraints in your own home. Our modern millennial homes have many virtues, but one thing they lack is space! Space constraint is something most of us end up dealing with every day. Smart storage solutions can be lifesavers in such tricky and compact situations. And to make your lives easier, we’ve curated a whole collection of storage solutions that come in the form of furniture designs that, to be honest, are going to completely organize your home. Not only do these products comfortably store your belongings, but they’re also perfect for displaying those special items that you don’t feel like shutting away in a dusty cabinet. From a slithering sculptural table with smart storage surfaces to a modular Japanese-inspired shelving design – these innovative storage and display solutions are the additions your home needs.

1. The Cobra Table

Designed by Deniz Aktay, the Cobra Table is artistic, sculptural but also super functional. It is inspired by a cobra, doing complete justice to its name.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Cobra table could be a small center table or a more suitable side table. It doesn’t have much of a footprint, and it has a snake-inspired form that is accentuated by a somewhat meandering shape.

What we like

 • No component or surface space of the Cobra table is left useless or unused

What we dislike

 • The slightly curved surface of the middle section means the books may slide off

2. Altitude Shelf

The Altitude Shelf is a new line of shelving by Evan Clabots that is inspired by clean lines and the minimal form of traditional Japanese woodworking.

Why is it noteworthy?

Although inspired by Japanese furniture, we can see bits of traditional Danish furniture in the piece as well. The shelving design is marked by clean minimal lines and no back panels which ensures that the design is open, airy, and free-flowing.

What we like

 • Modular design inspired by Japanese and Danish furniture

What we dislike

 • Bulky space-consuming design

3. Linea Collection

Italian furniture brand Porro is developing the Linea collection that was designed by late postmodernist architect and designer Medini a couple of years ago. The collection includes quirky and colorful storage units!

Why is it noteworthy?

Mendini created the designs by defining them with stunning cellulose acetate surfaces that feature inlays in primary colors. The collection is made up of three pieces – two sideboard cupboard units, and a writing desk.

What we like

 • Characterized by bold and bright colors, with playful contrasts between light and dark colors

What we dislike

 • The aesthetics may be considered too quirky by some people, and not preferred by everyone

4. Hideaway Swing Desk

The Hideaway Swing Desk is no ordinary desk! Primarily because it’s not just simply a desk, it’s also a sleek and elegant sideboard.

Why is it noteworthy?

In its original state, the Hideaway Swing Desk functions as an excellent sideboard that is perfect for smaller homes. But when you move the furniture piece at a 90-degree angle, it transforms into a functional and sturdy workspace.

What we like

 • Designed to be a flexible storage solution that can solve a variety of problems in modern homes

What we dislike

 • Space-consuming + bulky design

5. Combus Shelving System

The Combus Shelving System is a super smart and functional furniture design that provides versatile storage and partition spaces in the office.

Why is it noteworthy?

Designed by office furniture brand Narbutas, the Combus Shelving System features a range of varied shelving types and heights, that can be customized in different finishes.

What we like

 • Can be integrated with accessories like planter boxes, metal bookends, and felt storage baskets

What we dislike

 • Not suitable for smaller office spaces with space constraints

6. Funky

Say hello to Funky! Funky isn’t just your ordinary everyday storage unit, it is designed to add an eclectic element to your home, that can spark conversation and lighten up your living space.

Why is it noteworthy?

The hallmark of Funky’s design is the perfect harmony between vibrant colors, and neutral, wherein each element complements the other, in turn uplifting the piece’s aesthetics and visual appeal.

What we like

 • Adds a touch of artistic charm to your living space
 • Versatile + adaptable design

What we dislike

 • It may not cater to everyone’s tastes and could be considered too eclectic for some

7. Nice Chair

This unique-looking chair is intended to be a disassembled chair and it is called the Nice Chair! The Nice Chair is designed to occupy minimum space and can be easily assembled and disassembled.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Nice Chair can function as an ordinary chair to sit on, or as a rocker that moves back and forth. The rounded bottom edges of the chair enable it to rock back and forth, creating a mesmerizing lull that can guide anyone to sleep. You can also slide a tabletop between the ridges on the arms of the chair, to convert it into a workspace, that can hold and store your work accessories.

What we like

 • Multifunctional furniture design that can switch between two different modes

What we dislike

 • There is no way to stop the chair from rocking while working

8. SUNRIU Design

The Grid Chair by SUNRIU Design is a simple and tastefully designed chair with thoughtful details that make it quite unique. The otherwise ordinary wooden chair incorporates a few flat elements.

Why is it noteworthy?

The idea behind the Grid Chair was to tackle the issue of accidentally knocking over your coffee, or a glass of water while sitting on a chair or couch. The Grid Chair is made up of four planks of wood arranged in an interesting grid-like manner. The various lines of the chair stagger together to create a neat grid that creates extended flat surfaces on either side of the chair.

What we like

 • The extended surfaces serve as storage spaces to hold your coffee, books, and other knick-knacks

What we dislike

 • Space-consuming and bulky design not suitable for smaller spaces
 • The wooden edges of the extended surfaces are rough and raw and could hurt young children and babies

9. Fréquence Shelf

Designed by Jean Couvreur for Kabata, the Fréquence shelf is a minimal and sophisticated shelving design that functions as a multifunctional piece of modular furniture.

Why is it noteworthy?

The shelf includes a bunch of geometrically shaped modules that can be combined, mixed, and matched to create a variety of designs, according to your personal taste and preference.

What we like

 • The elements can be configured to create a small bookcase or a larger room divider

What we dislike

 • Bulky + space-consuming design

10. The Overlap Table

The Overlap table is a versatile furniture design that is commanding and functional. It can serve as a coffee table and a side table!

Why is it noteworthy?

I truly appreciate how the simple design prioritizes storage – something that modern homeowners will appreciate as well, considering the space constraint issues we all face nowadays.

What we like

 • Functions as a coffee and side table
 • Minimal + clean aesthetics

What we dislike

 • The box holds books only up to a fixed size and doesn’t allow for bigger books to be kept

Books have long been a source of knowledge, escape, and self-expression for people from all walks of life. The genres we read often reflect our tastes and interests, allowing us to showcase our individuality. However, in today’s fast-paced world, reading can sometimes feel like a daunting task, akin to homework. To bridge the gap between our love for books and our busy lives, the ORDO Book Side Table was created, providing a unique and functional solution to help us embrace reading more effortlessly.

Designer: Jugwang Lee

The ORDO Book Side Table is more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a statement of personal style and a reflection of your literary preferences. In a world where the average person reads only 5-6 books per year, this innovative table allows you to display your favorite reads proudly. With six book boards incorporated into the design, you can curate a selection that suits your taste and personality.

Reading should be an enjoyable experience, not a chore. The ORDO Book Side Table acknowledges the weight of books, both literally and figuratively. Its unique feature of providing a space for hanging books on the side table allows you to experience reading more lightly, much like clothes hanging on a dryer rack. This innovative design not only makes your books easily accessible but also adds an artistic touch to your living space.

Furthermore, the table’s “Resting Part” offers a convenient spot to save your place in the book you’re reading. This thoughtful addition ensures that your reading materials are always within arm’s reach, making your reading experience even more enjoyable.

The marriage of straight lines and curves in its design forms a harmonious aesthetic, blending seamlessly into various interior styles. Whether your home boasts a modern, minimalist decor or a more classic ambiance, the ORDO Book Side Table effortlessly complements any environment. The ORDO Book Side Table is designed with versatility in mind. Its rotation capability enables you to switch between two types: Type 1, measuring 600x360x350 mm, and Type 2, with dimensions of 500x360x500 mm. This adaptability allows you to customize the table’s height according to your environment and preferences, ensuring it seamlessly fits into any room.

The creation of ORDO involved a meticulous design process. Beginning with conceptualization and sketching, it progressed to the development of prototypes to ensure structural integrity and the proper sizing of components. The materials chosen, including MDF, stainless steel pipes, and steel book racks, were carefully selected to provide durability while maintaining a lightweight appearance.

After production through various companies in Euljiro, meticulous sanding and painting work were carried out to create a final product that exudes quality and craftsmanship. The result is a piece of furniture that not only serves a practical purpose but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of your living space.

In a world where the demands of modern life can often overshadow our love for reading, the ORDO Book Side Table rekindles our passion for books. Its innovative design allows us to express our individuality, making our book collections an integral part of our living space. With its practical features and adaptability, this piece of furniture not only makes reading more accessible but also elevates the overall aesthetics of our homes. In a world where life is undoubtedly better with books, the ORDO Book Side Table makes that life even more enjoyable.

A beautiful piece of furniture can complete a room. It can be the final piece that makes a space come full circle, building a comfortable and cohesive haven, rather than a random area. Furniture pieces make or break a home, they add on to the essence or soul of a home, hence one needs to be extremely picky while choosing a furniture design. The design should be a reflection of you, and what you want your home to be. When you place a piece of furniture in a room, it should instantly integrate with the space, creating a wholesome and organic environment. And one such furniture design is the Japanese-inspired Altitude Shelf.

Although inspired by Japanese furniture, we can see bits of traditional Danish furniture in the piece as well. The shelving design is marked by clean minimal lines and no back panels which ensures that the design is open, airy, and free-flowing.

As simple as the Altitude shelf looks, it is also equally simple to install. The shelf requires the includes nails and an Allen wrench to assemble it, after which the installer needs to tape the included placement poster to create the perfect placement and mark the nail holes. A nail spacer is utilized to ensure that the ideal amount of nail is not screwed, to provide the shelf with a sturdy frame.

The Altitude shelf features a simple and subtle design that can stand by itself as a single unit, or as multiple units to form a modular and spacious configuration that can hold multiple items. An Altitude shelf can hold up to 90 pounds and you can select between three finishes – Walnut, Oak, and Black Wood. What sets the shelf apart even more is that prices start at $165 for a set of one and $990 for a set of six – making it a pretty economical piece as well for your living space.

Kitchen units today can be pretty industrial and stark, they tend to be quite unfeeling and aren’t a great option for those who like their homes to be warm and comforting. If you’re someone who is tired of the same old kitchen units and is looking for a breath of fresh air in your home, then you’ve reached the right spot. Meet the Column Kitchen by French designer Inga Sempé. A minimal and good-looking kitchen unit, the Column Kitchen is designed to be “warm and different”. The Column Kitchen was designed by Sempé for the Danish brand Reform.

Designer: Inga Sempé for Reform

Designed for the Danish brand Reform, the Column Kitchen is a unique and subtle kitchen unit that features rounded-edged surfaces, sides, and handles. The various components of the unit come together to form a column that stretches harmoniously from the top to the bottom of each door. As you look closely at the kitchen unit, you’ll realize that the columns feature a mushroom-shaped profile when it is viewed from the top! This provides the unit with a form that is easily and efficiently gripp-able, while also adding a strong and defined visual identity.

“Industrial kitchens often look the same as home kitchens these days,” said Sempé. “Like a sum of cubes. We are obliged to live surrounded by these cubes, and I’m fed up with it. I just wanted to do something warm and different. Beautiful and rich, but not antipathetic.”

Reform has described the Column Kitchen as “elegant and eclectic”, “chunky yet refined” and “a break with the conventions of the kitchen”, making it an exceptional addition to modern homes. The Column Kitchen unit is available in natural oak, white ash, or four colors of spray-painted ash veneer – Fresh Cream, Pistachio, Concrete, or Dark Umbra. The door and handles of the Column Kitchen can be selected in a monochrome look or mix and matched version, helping you customize and create the kitchen unit that perfectly caters to your personal taste and preference while providing your mundane old kitchen with a new and exciting look!

]]>

Modern life carries a ton of environmental and societal stresses, which can easily take a toll on sleep hygiene. Many humans simply don’t get enough sleep at night – so much so, that the proliferation of sleep deprivation has become a public health crisis. And that’s setting aside the potential issues that one missed night of sleep by one individual can create in just one workplace. This phenomenon isn’t specific to any single region, and is rather a part of the modern human condition that many working adults face on a global scale, which is why, for instance, businesses in Japan and Sweden are installing nap areas into their workplaces en masse.

Whether taking a midday nap is a possible solution for chronic sleep deprivation, or if it’s just a symptom of a greater problem, it’s difficult to deny how comfortable the giraffenap nap pod looks, especially with all that cushioning and padding. It comes in two very distinct themes: the cyber-futuristic “Near Future”-themed Spacia, and the far more organic, wood-laden “Japanese Style”-themed Forest, and both of them are clearly designed for use in public Japanese spaces like offices and other common areas.

Designer: giraffenap

Both giraffenap pod models are designed with four-point cushioning, providing adequate space for the user to rest their feet, knees, butt, and arms (and head) while resting upright. Its internal controls allow for the height of these cushioning points to be adjusted for comfort, and it all looks both private and space-efficient – allowing for a lot of these pods to be placed close to one another in the same space. It’s probably more expensive than the average bed, but this nap pod makes way more sense to place directly in the middle of a public area.

All giraffenap pods are designed to protect the user from (and keep the user asleep through) earthquakes, but what especially separates Spacia apart from Forest is the unique feature set between both units. Spacia is designed for total and complete privacy, and is advertised as having “high soundproofing and fireproofing performance”, while Forest is designed for maximum airflow.

Giraffenap pods are slated to begin shipping out in Japan in December 2023, though it’s unclear when or if they will ship globally after their initial wave.

Top 5 speakers designed to match your interior style

]]>

You don’t need to settle for a home speaker system based on tech specs alone. Plenty of designers are working around the clock to invent entirely new speakers that sound fantastic, come with many quality-of-life features you’d expect in a modern Bose or Sony system, and also look visually compelling in original ways. Inversely, your interior design ethos may call for a specific color scheme or matching style – and you can accidentally throw off the balance of a room by adding something that doesn’t belong.

With the aforementioned problem in mind, I’ve rounded up five of the most interesting speaker designs featured by Yanko Design thus far, each offering a unique aesthetic flavor. Whether you’re looking for an organic wooden speaker set, a futurist speaker right out of a Syd Mead painting, or a speaker shaped like an ancient Roman bust, there’s something here for every interior designer.

1. Pantheone Audio Obsidian (Japandi)

Pantheone Audio’s Obsidian is a portable speaker which balances form with function. Right off the bat, this all-white (or all-black) obsidian-shaped audio unit is packed in with high-quality gear, including a front-firing speaker array containing two 20W tweeters and a 40W woofer – all powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts for around 15 hours before needing a drink. The accompanying Pantheone app lets you remotely control multiple Obsidian speakers via mobile device, but it also works with Amazon Alexa out of the box, meaning, for instance, you can theoretically chain your Obsidian speakers to an existing network of Amazon Echo speakers and play Spotify through your Obsidian and Amazon Echo network in unison. If that isn’t your first choice, don’t fret: it connects to other major streaming services like Apple Music, and can even play lossless audio straight from the source via WiFi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and AUX. Its sculpted, angular design makes it a mainstay in any modern home that appeals to a clean, minimalistic decorative taste.

2. Nebula by Ken Chen (Cybercore futurist)

If you’ve ever played video games like Mass Effect, or if you’ve watched movies like Tron or Blade Runner, you’re probably familiar with the futuristic visual language created by late industrial designer and concept artist Syd Mead. If that’s the case, then you’d probably agree if I said the Nebula tech art speaker by designer Ken Chen looks and feels a lot like if NASA hired Syd Mead to co-design a portable home speaker system which might accompany actual astronauts into space. It’s unlikely you live inside of a spacecraft yourself, but if you’re into futuristic interior design, the Nebula speaker may be the mantelpiece you didn’t know your home needed. It’s a fully-functional 360-degree portable speaker system equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 True Wireless Stereo functionality, an onboard Smart Control panel, and integrated ambient lighting with patented SoundForm “Ferrofluid Music Visualization” visuals that give it a truly alien look. It would look perfect next to the Chronomark Watch and Watch Case from Starfield.

3. Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn (Brutalist/Accent)

Bang & Olufsen are well-known for coming up with mouthwatering luxury speaker designs catered to collectors with a love of Nordic style. The Beosystem 72-23 Nordic Dawn looks straight out of a high-end Scandinavian catalog, and its built-in tech as well as its connectivity with other nearby Bang & Olufsen speakers makes it a truly excellent HiFi audio system showcasing elegant craftsmanship from top to bottom, thanks to high-quality woodwork and premium materials throughout the build. Whether you’re streaming from Spotify or Apple Music, or playing vinyl directly through the integrated turntable, this (nearly $64,700) limited edition system is easy to control thanks to direct integration with the Bang & Olufsen app.

4. Torso speaker by Yang Dong Wook (Art Deco or Contemporary)

Nothing would bring a room full of sculptures and avant-garde artwork together like a portable speaker shaped like a Roman bust, and that’s the exact niche the Torso speaker is meant to fill. This concept speaker is directly inspired by marble sculptures like Michelangelo’s statue of David, and it was designed by creator Yang Dong Wook as part of Samsung’s Design Membership Program. This one is more conceptual than practical, and you won’t find it for sale anywhere, but it looks like it makes for a delightful mantelpiece item for an artist who loves getting creative with interior decor. The most interesting feature is the neck, which is filled with… nothing. It’s intentionally designed as a place to put items, like flowers or other artwork.

5. Nothing Speakers by Ivan Llaneza (Sci-fi minimalism)

The Nothing Speakers aren’t nothing. In fact, they’d fit right in a modern home, especially in an office room filled with high-end tech. Coming in black or white, this portable speaker system is well-equipped with high-quality internal components, allowing Bluetooth connectivity for easy integration into streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. There’s an integrated LED system that syncs to the music playing through it, making for an interesting audiovisual experience at house parties and social gatherings. Not to mention – in kitschy 2000’s fashion – these speakers also feature an array of buttons and toggles on the bottom front cover of the chassis, which immediately reminds me of a boombox layout, albeit much more futuristic looking thanks to its glass design. The lettering, which displays a large digital LED-lit “Nothing” logo accompanied by “Volume” and “Bass 1” on the side and front, give it an especially cool look.

We often underestimate the importance of a great chair. When in reality, we really shouldn’t. We spend the majority of our day sitting on chairs, whether we’re working in our home office, enjoying a meal, or simply sitting and reading a book for leisure! Hence, this piece of furniture needs to be not only comfortable but ergonomic and aesthetic as well. An excellent chair design is not only a boon to your back and helps you maintain a healthy posture, but is also super comfy to sink into and will perfectly match the interiors of your modern home. And, a great chair to consider for your home is the Nebula lounge wood chair!

Designer: E-ggs for Miniforms

Designed by Italian design studio E-ggs for furniture brand Miniforms, the Nebula lounge wood chair is a versatile and unique chair that is available in a choice of three different bases. The wooden base of the Nebula lounge chair is exceptional for cozy home environments, while aluminum is an excellent choice for offices. The base with tubular metal legs allows the chair to harmoniously merge with a wide range of settings and scenarios.

Much like the aluminum base, the wooden base features a tilt-and-return mechanism that allows the chair to dynamically respond to shifting sittings positions, while also providing the warmth and subtleness of wood to the chair. It features a four-star base that is built using rounded planks, providing the chair with a distinctive design while also reflecting the teardrop shape of the Nebula series’ armrests.

“The lounge version of Nebula celebrates technology but keeps it low-key, eliminating any suggestion of stuffiness,” said Miniforms. The Nebula lounge wood seat is crafted from pure polyurethane. A soft version is utilized for the foam, while a harder and rigid variant is reserved for the shell, and they are fully recyclable. The Nebula lounge chair is definitely a smart and well-designed seating option for your home, although it is a bulky and space-consuming design, so it’s not recommended for homes with smaller real estate, as it may promote cramping issues. The Nebula Chair is an optimum option for homes with a generous amount of space.

Furniture pieces make or break a home, they add to the essence or soul of a home, hence one needs to be extremely picky while choosing a furniture design. The design should be a reflection of you, and what you want your home to be. When you place a piece of furniture in a room, it should instantly integrate with the space, creating a wholesome and organic environment. We’ve curated a collection of minimal furniture designs that we believe will do this – the Croma furniture collection. Each of these pieces is unique, well-crafted, and made with a whole lot of love, and the love really shines through in the fine detailing and workmanship. We hope you feel the love too!

Designer: Lagranja Design for Systemtronic

Designed by Barcelona studio Lagranja Design for the furniture brand Systemtronic, the Croma furniture collection is a minimal and subtle range of furniture pieces that are highlighted by curved lines and a warm-toned color palette. The materials and finishes used to build the furniture collection are inspired by the warmth and beauty of the Mediterranean. The pieces are built using natural and stained ash wood combined with painted and chrome-plated aluminum.

The Croma collection includes a wardrobe with a rail with an arched top over two shelves and a planter bench with rounded edges. The bench has space for potted plants. It also includes three sizes of circular tables, a valet stand, mirrors, and a trolley. Systemtronic says that the Croma collection is “fun, almost playful, furniture that is easily recognizable thanks to its geometric consistency”. “[It is] a key modern collection which incorporates organic shapes and explores all that is different, emotional and serene,” the brand concluded.

The Croma furniture collection is a sophisticated and elegant furniture collection that would add manifolds of style and charisma to any living space. The various pieces perfectly complement one another, creating a collection that is harmonious, well-designed, and minimalist.

2020 was a life-altering and drastic year, and 2023 has been the year we get to redeem all our careless mistakes of the past and start living more consciously and sustainably. We cannot ignore the needs of our planet anymore, we need to take the environment into consideration, and what better way to start doing that than from our own homes? Sustainable furniture is taking the design industry by storm, they’re a step towards making our homes and our daily lives more eco-friendly and sustainable. They’re an attempt to cast aside toxic materials, and instead, add furniture designs to our home that won’t rot away on Earth for years once we’re done with them. We’ve curated a collection of furniture products created from cork, bamboo, and even coffee-based waste! The options are endless, and the end result is the same – a greener, healthier, and happier Mother Earth!

1. 3D-printed Chairs

Designed by Johannes Steinbauer Office For Design, these unique 3D-printed chairs were designed by utilizing additive manufacturing, and without the use of fabrics, springs, and foam. Although the chair doesn’t have any springs and foam, it is still super functional and cozy to sit in.

Why is it noteworthy?

The design is simple enough with four legs, a round seat, and a single bar at the back. But if you want to add other components like more racks or textiles, these can be added through 3D printing. The different parts are easy to assemble and disassemble and once it reaches the end of life, you can dispose of the different parts separately and recycle them accordingly.

What we like

 • Easy to assemble and disassemble the design
 • Sustainable design

What we dislike

 • No instruction on having a space-saving version of this design

2. Ash Furniture Collection

London-based social enterprise Goldfinger recently launched its Tate Modern furniture collection which is built from fallen trees at the London Design Festival.

Why is it noteworthy?

The collection includes a dining table, bench, and stool. The pieces were built using fallen ash trees, in turn celebrating the delicate and elegant beauty of native British wood.

What we like

 • Utilizes timber that would otherwise have been destroyed
 • Individual pieces feature an engraving of the coordinates of where the fallen trees once stood

What we dislike

 • Large space-consuming designs

3. Gago Rocking Chair

Portuguese design brand Dam just unveiled a cork-clad rocking chair to celebrate 10 years of its existence. The unique-looking chair is inspired by seaplanes!

Why is it noteworthy?

When you look at the Gago rocking chair, it instantly brings to mind the rounded shape of an aviator’s helmet, which is an ode to the first successful crossing of the South Atlantic Ocean by a Portuguese pilot in 1922. On the back of every chair is a label that says “1922, 8383km”. The number represents the milestone journey between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro.

What you like

 • The exterior of the chair is made from cork, making it sustainable, durable, and aesthetic

What we dislike

 • Since it is a rocking chair, it is a pretty niche furniture design and doesn’t hold utility for everyone

4. The Bend Chair

Designed by the Thai design brand Waste is More, the Bend Chair is built using coffee-based waste, recycled plastic, and wood. The simple and minimalist-looking chair’s seat, back, and arm are made from More’s signature PlasCoff material

Why is it noteworthy?

The material combines recycled plastic with waste from coffee bean processing, making it a pretty sustainable option for your home! The interesting part is that the deeper the shade, the higher the content of coffee waste

What we like

 • Built using locally sourced rubber tree timber, and coffee-based waste
 • Perfect mix of ergonomics, functionality, sustainability, and good looks

What we dislike

 • Aesthetics are a bit unassuming and simple

5. Tellus Bench

Designed by street furniture brand Vestre and designer Emma Olbers, the Tellus Bench was built using fossil-free steel, and without creating any kind of carbon sessions.

Why is it noteworthy?

Swedish steelmaker SSAB forged the steel used to build the Tellus Bench in its converted blast furnace, which utilizes green hydrogen instead of coal for heat, and hence it emits no carbon dioxide.

What we like

 • The bench is equipped with wide armrests, that provide comfort to the user, while also offering sufficient space to place a coffee or tea cup

What we dislike

 • Aesthetics are a bit dull and unassuming

6. Fuld Chair

Dubbed Fuld, the newly launched nesting chair by Herman Miller is truly quite unique and like no other. It is an efficient and effective solution for reconfiguring your workspace without compromising on style, sleekness, and minimalism

Why is it noteworthy?

Fuld is a revolutionary one-piece construction featuring an inverted Y shape, which ensures that the production process creates less water. The back is incorporated with elasticity, to ensure the utmost comfort as you shift and move around.

What we like

 • Built from 50 percent post-consumer recycled content, and to the chair’s dimensions, so no material is wasted at all during the construction of the chair

What we dislike

 • Not much head support if you’re very tall

7. The Kana Pro Bamboo Standing Desk

Designed by FlexiSpot, the Kana Pro Bamboo Standing Desk is an ergonomic, height-adjustable desk that features a unique desktop – one that is made from bamboo.

Why is it noteworthy?

The bamboo desktop is the focal point of the desk, and it intends to bring an element of warmth to your home office. Also according to FlexiSpot it “has twice the durability of ordinary wood”. “Nothing beats the elegance of a natural bamboo strip built into an ergonomic desk,” said the brand.

What we like

 • Sustainable and durable furniture design
 • Equipped with a dual-motor lifting system

What we dislike

 • Could be more aesthetically detailed and pleasing

8. Drop Side Table

This clean, minimal, and sturdy furniture piece is called the Drop Side Table, it is built by twisting a standard glass tube until the tube is completely interlocked within itself.

Why is it noteworthy?

This twisting and interlocking resulted in the creation of two parts that are divided by a tightly knitted separation. Twisting the tube created a simple and efficient product that did not require any additional material.

What we like

 • Recycled PTA and recycled wood fibers were utilized for the 3D-printing process
 • The twisting storage sections of the side table can be used to store a variety of items from books and magazines to tealights or smaller flowers

What we dislike

 • The curved under-table is not a storage-intensive design as it leads to a waste of space

9. The Bündner Side Table

The Bündner Side Table is designed by Portuguese architecture and design studio Joana Vilaça Studio. The solid wood table is inspired by the Swiss Alps lifestyle.

Why is it noteworthy?

Joana drew inspiration from her own experience of living in Switzerland, where her studio is located. “Having lived for five years in the beautiful Graubünden canton of Switzerland, the collection is inspired by the art of living in the Swiss Alps,” she said.

What we like

 • The self-assembly design is ideal for residential or public interiors, where it can be utilized as a bedside, coffee, or side table

What we dislike

 • Would be great if there was a folding/space-saving version of it as well

10. ChatPod 700

The Chatpod 700 is a sleek and minimal office booth that is supposed to be “the most sustainable office booth on the market”.

Why is it noteworthy?

Made entirely from recycled materials such as post-consumer cardboard, sawdust, rubber, and plastic bottles, the Chatpod 700 is quite proud of its sustainable composition, and with reason.

What we like

 • Made using recycled materials
 • Excellent and convenient space to hold casual informal meetings

What we dislike

 • Large space-consuming design, not intended for smaller office spaces
